We all find our excuses for how the weight went on. For me, it started in my early 20’s, when my son was 2 years old. I was 24 and out of boredom, and, I suppose, loneliness, I turned to sugary food for comfort. My weight just kept creeping upwards.
Then, in my late 20’s, after being diagnosed with PCOS, I found an excuse for not being able to lose weight. I would try fad eating plans, or the latest celebrity diet, hating every minute of them. I might lose a few pounds, but then, the weight would go back on, always with a little extra.
I was inspired to join Unislim after reading the success stories of the local Bray Leader, Jean Kelly and a member from her Bray class, Bronagh Mangan’s stories in a magazine. Seeing what they had achieved, I decided that I didn’t want to do any more fad diets I wanted to do this the right way. I joined Jean’s class and now, 11 months later I’m over 6 stone lighter and I feel brand new.
At my first class, I stepped on the scales and was shocked at how heavy I was, but my Leader was amazing and got me ready for my first week. And the support I received from the class really made me feel like I had a team behind me, I wasn’t alone. Sharing and listening to everyone’s stories each week really helps, that is why going to class each week is so important. Jean made me realise that just because you might have one bad meal doesn’t mean you have a bad day or week. Tracking my food made me feel in control and aware of my habits, especially my water intake.
People always ask me “when will you start eating normally again?” which I find strange, I always say to them I am eating normally with Unislim, I wasn’t eating normally before.
I’m a vegetarian and I was so happy to see how this fits in perfectly with the Feed Yourself Fit Plan. My son eats what I eat even though he’s not a vegetarian, we love the tacos fries it’s our family favourite!
I used to find myself lacking in energy and as a result didn’t socialise much at the weekend, but now, I love getting out and about. I am so much more active than before. I love being outdoors, especially hill-walking – I can’t get over how much fitter I am now, I don’t have to stop every few minutes to catch my breath.
I love meeting up with my friends for walks and when I go to the movies, I pack my curly wurly and healthy goodies so I can still have my favourite treats and stay on track. It’s all just a matter of making little changes to suit my life.
My confidence has been completely transformed. This is most evident in my work, and as a result, I have been given more responsibility, I love it!
