My Story

I have two young babies who were born a year apart and had put on 4 stone over the course of the two pregnancies. Last June, in 2023, when my eldest was 13 months old and my youngest was one month old, I was so busy looking after them that I didn’t really leave the house. I was eating whatever was around me and wasn’t exercising because I was recovering from a C-section. I just wasn’t feeling like myself at all and wanted to get back to the weight I was before. My mother said to me, “Come along with me to Unislim.”

On day one, it was so daunting, knowing how far I had to go to achieve my goal weight – I wondered whether I could actually do it in the time frame I wanted to. However, my leader Anne Marie was so great and for me, it was all about accountability – knowing I needed to go to class every week to be weighed kept me focused on the plan. And my mother was by my side the whole journey and was a great support throughout. The only challenge I found was when I had a special occasion or holiday coming up; I worried how I would be able to enjoy myself while staying on track, but the plan made it easy and knowing I had to go back to class motivated me to make good choices.

Being able to eat the foods I enjoy without restricting myself was key for me. I just needed to learn how to have the right portions of carbs and protein at every meal. My mum made a lot of the Unislim recipes for us, which I really loved. I also loved Flexifasting which is still enjoying my three meals and two snacks every day but fasting 14 hours from my last meal at night to my breakfast the following morning. That worked really well for me – it stopped me nibbling at night time and got me to my goal weight. I’m a PE teacher, so for me, exercise wasn’t an issue – it was all about food and learning about portion sizes.

Now, I feel so much better and like myself again. I’m able to move more easily and do more with my time. I’ve just returned to work after maternity leave and am so delighted I got back to myself in time for that. I’ve more confidence and more importantly, the energy I’ll need to keep up with my busy lifestyle. We have a holiday planned for June so I’m looking forward to relaxing with my family and friends and continuing to just feel great in my own skin.
