‘I was simply sick of just getting bigger,” says Angela Walsh of her decision to join Unislim and get on top of her slowly expanding waistline. “I wasn’t happy that I was tipping a size 18, and I knew the extra weight wasn’t helping my health.” She was starting to feel discomfort, especially in her feet, which would become very swollen and painful. So, in January 2013, she saw an advert for Geraldine O’Brien’s class and decided she had had enough and joined straightaway.
“This time, it was different,” Angela remembers. “I was really determined and I liked the Unislim Forever Free plan. It was very straightforward, and I liked the variety that the extra Bites offered each day.” Angela made some positive changes to her way of eating. Instead of a breakfast of rounds of toast with butter and jam, she now has cereal; lunch is now a tasty panini made by toasting a wrap with lots of vegetables and some chicken or other protein. Dinners are healthy family meals, and Angela will still enjoy the odd treat.
In the first week, Angela lost six pounds, and then continued to have a steady loss each week thereafter. She even stayed the same over Christmas last, when she’d reached her target. The secret? “I walked every day, and followed the Unislim Forever Free plan,” Angela continues. “This year, I did a 10k walk in one hour and 45 minutes. There was a great atmosphere; I’d like to do more of them.”
Fundamental to Angela’s weight loss journey was her leader, Geraldine. “She does so much in class, and with her members,” Angela explains. “Like arranging fashion shows, where we are the models. And she brought us out to dinner to Whites Hotel in Wexford town, where they design their menu to fit in with the Unislim Forever Free plan.”
Now at her target weight for almost a year, size 12 Angela can shop anywhere she chooses and can buy anything that takes her fancy. “It’s great,” she beams. “I got a gorgeous little black dress for Christmas last year, and my daughter Nicola bought me skinny jeans. I never thought I’d be in a pair of them!”And if Angela were going back to January 2013, what would she tell herself, as she headed in to her first Unislim meeting? “I’d say hang in there and stick with it. You’re going to do it, and you’re going to feel amazing.”
