Before I joined Unislim, I was in such a vicious circle. I didn’t want to dress up or go out, and I didn’t feel good, so I’d sit at home in front of the TV with a Chinese – just feeding the problem. Eventually, I was so sick of being embarrassed, I decided to get up, do something for me, and join Unislim. That was the best decision I ever made, and it opened my eyes in such a way, I’ve never looked back. I vividly remember walking in that door for the first time.
Initially, you think you are the only one who can eat their way through a tub of Ben & Jerry’s and feel guilty, but thankfully, I was not alone! I was met by smiling faces when I joined, and when I talked to members, I got a sense that we were all in the same boat. There was instant support. People were great and just speaking up and giving you solutions without any judgement. From the outset, I decided not to have a big weight loss goal – that would’ve freaked me out too much. Instead, I just focused on losing five pounds at a time. It worked, and I got to target.
That was eight years ago, and I’m thrilled to say I lost five stone, and even though I’ve just had my first baby, I’m still at target weight today. When baby Eve was born, I found Unislim was fantastic in helping me get back into shape. There was no rush or pressure, but after three months, I decided to return to Unislim. I followed the Forever Free plan and went back to eating three healthy meals and two snacks per day, and exercised whenever my new schedule allowed. Within three months, I was down two stone, three pounds, and I really couldn’t believe myself – I was back to the old me. But better than the numbers, I found that eating the Unislim way gives me the energy I need to look after a newborn, and I want to be in my best possible form for my little daughter.
I’m so enthusiastic about helping people live a healthier life that I have become a Unislim leader and run meetings in Mitchelstown, Fermoy, Mallow and Doneraile. Working for Unislim fits seamlessly with my family life and as someone with a new baby, my life has totally changed, so I can identify with my members going through the same thing. I’ve learned lots of tips along the way, and love to share them with members. For example, each morning I have porridge with homemade apple purée for breakfast – which Eve can also have – so it cuts out the extra work, and yet I know we’re both eating well.
I enjoy cooking, I make lots of “clear out the fridge” soups with plenty of spices and tasty stocks for flavour, and dinner is a family meal like bacon and cabbage, spaghetti bolognese or a chicken pasta bake. My treats are sugar-free jelly and Healthy Options hot chocolate – they’re my heroes. I’ll be buried with them! It’s amazing how your priorities totally change with a little one. You now have far more important things to consider and worry about. But if you can get your body back on track, and if you’re looking and feeling better, it’ll help you feel like yourself again, and ready to face whatever life throws in your direction.
