“I wanted to be fit and healthy for my granddaughter and look good for my daughter’s wedding day. What I’ve ended up with is a whole new lifestyle full of energy.”
I first joined Unislim on the 18th of January 2022. I had a history of yo-yo dieting, trying different programmes and giving up after a while thinking, it’s just not working for me, but now I realise it was just my mindset at that time. After joining Unislim, that message really struck me – it is all in the mind. That and the support of my leader Deirdre and my class – together, they all had a major impact. I took a lot of inspiration from the other members in my class and their stories so I told myself, ‘If they can do it, so can I.’
I work in a busy café and it can be challenging not to pick when you have delicious smells wafting from the kitchen and they’re making burgers and chips. So I decided I needed to be prepared. I do a meal plan every Wednesday night and decide what I’m having for the week, and I track everything I eat, I’m very focused.
What I love about the Unislim plan is the variety and the fact you can eat what really suits you The food choices – there is nothing you can’t have. It’s not like with other plans where you’re constantly saying to yourself, ‘Oh, I can’t have that.’ You can – no food is off the table.
When it comes to exercise, I walk sometimes, but working in a café, I’d do on average 28,000 steps a day. Then when I’m home, I’m constantly on my feet. I have my two children living at home with me and a 15-month-old granddaughter, who is full of energy – she’s another reason I’m looking after myself, as I want to be fit for her.
Halfway through my journey, my daughter told me she was getting married and that really motivated me to keep going and reach my goal. The wedding is in January 2024 and I cannot wait. I’m meeting with a dressmaker in a few weeks to get the perfect outfit to suit my new shape.
My advice to anyone who’s just beginning their own journey is to join, take in all the information, never miss a class – your leader is the greatest support you have, along with your fellow members. I would often take out the Balance Plan and read back through it in case there’s something that would just give me that extra push. Listen to the other members and don’t be afraid to ask for advice. If you’re looking for new recipes to motivate you, just go online – everything is there. Read the stories on the Unislim app and the challenges other people went through. It’s all there in front of you, if you just go for it.
