I’ve lost weight in the past and on my own in time for my daughter Caroline’s wedding in 2021. My son got married the following year in June 2022 and I had managed to keep the weight off for that wedding, but then after that, the weight started piling on again and by December 2022, I decided enough was enough. I didn’t want to feel the way I did anymore and wanted to be healthy and more active. And I had never actually reached my goal weight before – I came close but just could never quite get there.
I rejoined Unislim in January 2023, and my daughter Caroline joined the following June after her second baby was born which was great as we supported each other. I’ve been cooking a few of the Unislim recipes for us to enjoy and we love the Thai red curry, the rosemary chicken and the spicy sweet potato. It’s been lovely doing this together because we can encourage and motivate one another and chat about different recipes we can try.
With the Unislim plan, there’s nothing you can’t eat, it’s all about balance. Enjoying three meals each day, two healthy snacks, and making sure you have your protein, carbs, fruit and veg on your plate. For me, the greatest challenge was the evening time, when I’d be sitting down and would like to have a little something but it’s just about getting out of that habit and establishing a new routine. Now, I’d maybe have a hot drink or find something to do to distract me and that feeling of wanting a treat will pass after about ten minutes.
I reached my target weight in July 2023 and I now have three wee grandchildren – Caroline has two babies and my son has a baby now, too – and I finally have the energy I need to have fun with them and help look after them. I’ve started walking now, too, and that’s been brilliant. It just clears my head and my energy levels are massively improved.
It’s so important to keep going to the class, and to stay for class after the weigh-in, and that’s what I’m doing now to ensure I maintain my weight. Anne Marie has been absolutely super – she’s a great leader. It’s also good to keep looking back over the Unislim book – even after reaching my target weight, I still refer to the Balance plan to stay on track.
