I joined Unislim on the 17th of January 2019. I went on holiday to to Orlando in early January 2019, the shopping is great, the clothes are fantastic, but when you’re that size … all I bought were runners and some large clothes – they were in no particular size, just one size fits all. I thought, “Never again.” When 1 arrived back from my holiday and as I stepped off the plane, I said, “I have to go to Unislim.” So I went to the class and stepped on the scale. I think my face said it all when I saw it read 14st 8½ lbs. My leader, Andrea, just said, “You’ll never have to see that again.”

Before Unislim, I smoked for years. I was never in good shape. I did walk a bit, but not to the extent I do now. I have three boys – now all grown – and I had put on around a stone after each child, and then probably another, and it just all built up from there. Luckily, I never suffered from any health issues, but my knees would hurt. Once I started walking, and after I lost that first stone, my knees felt much better.

Andrea is amazing. I think everybody just loves her attitude. It’s like she’s one of us. She’s just so down to earth and lovely. She got me to where I am today.

The part of the programme that really worked for me was the food plan. You eat what you want within balance. I wouldn’t be one for soups, pastas or curries, but I had no problem finding things I do eat and enjoy. I started having breakfast, which I never did before. I’d have porridge most days, and I’ve tried recipes for waffles and other things and they’re absolutely gorgeous. So the plan does work and anybody can do it.

I absolutely love walking now. I’d do at least 10km every day, sometimes 20km. Walking is great for the headspace, never mind the body. I have two dogs, so no matter what the weather, I still have to walk them, so I’d always get out in the daytime with them and then in the evening I’d go off on my own for an hour or so, listening to music and having a bit of downtime for myself.

I did struggle a bit when classes closed at the start of the pandemic last year. I loved my classes and I don’t particularly like spending time on the computer so I was sceptical about the UniZoom classes at first, but Andrea encouraged me and once I gave them a try, they really helped and I love my UniZoom classes now. I would hate to think where I’d be if I hadn’t joined UniZoom. I’d recommend them for anyone who’s just getting started or struggling.

I’m so happy now. I just enjoy life and have loads of energy. I feel better now than I ever did when I was younger. If you eat good, you feel good. I’m a size 12 now and I just feel fantastic. I have another holiday booked for Orlando for Halloween, and I cannot wait to go clothes shopping.

My advice to anyone just starting on their journey is, just do it. And take photographs from day one and then every half stone. When you see the visual difference in your body, it spurs you on. That was my experience, and I would never let anyone take my picture before, but I just decided to do it, and I’m so glad I did. It really is the best plan – and I’ve tried others. Unislim is not a diet – it’s a lifestyle.
